In response to the powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquakes that struck communities in Syria and Turkey on February 6, 2023, the Center for Arab American Philanthropy, which is the nation’s only Arab American community foundation, immediately launched a nationwide fundraiser to help bring relief to those affected by this tragic event. So far, the appeal has raised $75,434, and CAAP provided a $38,445 match from its Disaster Relief Fund, for a grand total of $113,879. Donations poured in from across the country and will support Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS) and Oxfam, organizations on the ground that are providing direct aid.

“Waking up to the devastating news from Syria and Turkey, the Center for Arab American Philanthropy knew we immediately had to act,” said Tamara El-Khoury, Director of the Center for Arab American Philanthropy. “The outpouring of financial support from all over the country with donation amounts of all sizes is testament to the power of collective giving. I hope this support from CAAP can be a source of support for survivors and bring life-saving resources to those that have experienced the unimaginable. Our hearts are with them.”
Help is still needed, so CAAP is continuing to collect donations. Learn more and give at https://www.centeraap.org/funds/view-our-funds/disaster-relief-fund/
