Building Blocks for
New Americans Fund

What transforms a house into a home? It’s more than brick and mortar – it’s having clothing for your children; having reliable transportation to get to work; not having to worry about how to get food on the table or how to pay your medical bills. Basic needs are the building blocks for a thriving home. That’s where the Building Blocks for New Americans Fund at the Center for Arab American Philanthropy (CAAP) plays a critical role.

Becoming a New American

In December of 2016, the Building Blocks for New Americans Fund was launched at the Center for Arab American Philanthropy (CAAP) after many were forced from their homes in Syria and resettled in the United States.  In its first three years,  the fund raised more than $550,000 in cash and in-kind donations to support 60 New American families predominately from Syria, Yemen and Iraq with their basic needs including rental support, transportation, medical bills and household necessities.

Today, the Building Blocks for New Americans Fund continues to build on the work we’ve already done: helping new American families living in poverty make ends meet. When emergencies occur, such as serious illness, unexpected home repairs, or loss of work, many immigrant and refugee families have limited or no savings.  Through the BBNA Fund, families are provided with essential support to help see them through challenging times and provide the building blocks for a thriving home.

One hundred percent of all donations through this fund directly benefits the families.
