8/20/2013 Note: Due to the current unrest in Egypt, CAAP urges all travelers to exercise caution when visiting volatile regions.

Our travel philanthropy series is based on the belief that you can do good and change the world wherever you are. We also love to showcase all the beautiful destinations the Middle East has to offer! The first stop in our series this summer is Egypt. Global Exchange is organizing a “Reality Tour” to encourage Western tourists to experience Egypt from a different perspective. In traveling to Cairo, the Sinai Peninsula, and Luxor, visitors will meet with various environmental and social activists, and learn about how the recent revolution has affected Egyptian society.

Participants will examine issues surrounding corruption, poverty, sustainability, and the environment, along with gender and religion to develop an in-depth understanding of Egypt beyond the Arab Spring. The tour also includes a unique cultural experience, with stops at the Pyramids of Giza, a hot air balloon ride, camping with a Bedouin tribe, and a pottery class. Learn more about Global Exchanges tours by visiting its website.

The Center for Arab American Philanthropy encourages you to keep a philanthropic mindset wherever you go this summer! Over the next few months, we’ll be taking you on a virtual tour of travel philanthropy destinations all over the Middle East.
