Having just announced our 2012 round of grants, we wanted to give you some updates on the great activities our grantees are organizing around the country. Check out the organizations local to you for a little bit of Arab culture and fun this fall!

Starting this week, the Arab Cultural and Community Center (ACCC) is showcasing the work of Lebanese photojournalist Najib Joe Hakim in San Francisco. The ACCC will be holding a gallery opening on Sept. 19. On Oct. 6, the ACCC will be holding its annual Arab Cultural Festival, which turns a large part of San Francisco into a bazaar, with Arab-themed games, activities, shopping and music for all ages.

Access California Services (AccessCal) in Anaheim, CA and the Arab American Action Network (AAAN) in Chicago have a busy autumn season ahead. These organizations provide a range of social services, along with English and citizenship classes. AccessCal’s Executive Director Nahla Kayali recently traveled to Washington, D.C. to meet President Obama at the White House!

Along with assembling a new Arab-language chorus, the Alif Institute in Atlanta is planning its Third Annual Gala, which will be held on Nov. 17, which will feature prominent Arab American comedians and public figures. Check out their website for more details.

The 2012-2013 Al-Bustan Seeds of Culture Concert Series will kick off this fall in Philadelphia with three internationally renowned musicians: Turkish clarinetist Husnu Senlendirici, Moroccan vocalist Karima Skalli, and Lebanese vocalist Rima Khcheich. More information is available here.

Chapters of the Arab American Association of Engineers and Architects (AAAEA) will join together in Chicago to hold their National Annual Conference from Nov. 16-18.

The youth of the Arab American Association of New York (AAANY) are busy organizing voter registration activities, such a crucial activity in a Presidential election year. Did you know that nearly 90 million people won’t vote this year? We’re sure these youth will encourage them to “Yalla Vote!” Additionally, the AAANY will be holding their Annual Gala on Nov. 9. More details will be available on their website.

So many great activities, and so little time – stay tuned for an upcoming feature on film festivals from our other grantees!
