Established in memory of Issam and Dr. Rima Abbas and their children Ali, Isabella, and Giselle, the Abbas Family Red Wagon Fund continues their remarkable legacy of kindness and community support. The family’s lives were tragically cut short when a drunk driver struck their vehicle on January 6, 2019.
The fund supports small and large projects within Arab American communities, as well as other communities, focusing on breaking down barriers through advocacy, access to healthcare, education, and other initiatives that aim to center marginalized voices and promote empowerment, equity, and healing. It also houses two scholarships in memory of the Abbas family:
- The Issam and Dr. Rima Abbas Endowed Scholarship, supporting students at Fordson High School.
- The Ali, Isabella, and Giselle Abbas Legacy Scholarship, supporting students at Northville High School.
This year, the fund awarded $13,500 in scholarships to students who embody the values of the Abbas family.
