With the holiday season underway, we’ve decided to highlight our 2014 grantee partners and ways in which you could support their important work by giving great gifts.

Purchase an everyday item or gift for the clients of the Arab-American Family Support Center:

The Arab-American Family Support Center, a nonprofit that empowers and helps new immigrants acclimate to the world around them, created an Amazon Wish List comprised of items that their clients have requested. Much of this list contains basic, everyday items; for many of these clients, it is extremely difficult to afford such things. When you purchase an item off of this list, you will be providing families and their children with necessary things, with the possibility of even helping a parent give their child a gift they couldn’t otherwise afford.

Sign up for Arabic classes at the Alif Institute:

The Alif Institute offers Arabic language courses for children and adults, and registration for the winter semester is open! The classes focus on various language skills and emphasize the integration of language and culture. In addition to these classes, Alif Institute also offers Arabic arts and crafts courses free for all registered students (non-students must pay for each session), providing participants with a comprehensive look at Arab culture by way of folk art, traditions and various arts and crafts. Learn more about it here!

Somali Family Service aids the Eastern African Refugee community with its Family Strengthening program. In this program, SFS advocates on issues such as access to quality healthcare, civil rights, law enforcement, interpretation and translation, and school-related challenges. The program also provides many workshops that provide leadership development and conflict resolution, as well as family and youth counseling.

We hope this inspires you to learn more about our 2014 grantees and all the wonderful work they do! We wish you Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year as well!
