Every year, the Center for Arab American Philanthropy (CAAP) presents the Outstanding Arab American Philanthropist of the Year Award to a community member who goes above and beyond in dedicating their time, talent and treasure to making a positive impact. We then celebrate their contributions at our annual Threads of Giving Gala.
We are honored this year to bring our Gala to the Washington, D.C. area on September 13, 2025, to celebrate the remarkable Dr. Azizah al-Hibri, a highly respected lawyer, professor and scholar, whose commitment to giving back is reflected in her work as an institution-builder, thought leader and human rights advocate.
Watch the video below and keep reading to learn more about Dr. Azizah’s longstanding impact.
One of Dr. al-Hibri’s most notable philanthropic contributions is the founding of KARAMAH: Muslim Women Lawyers for Human Rights, in 1993, where she has dedicated her time, talent and treasure to create a nonprofit organization committed to advancing human rights globally, with a focus on promoting gender equity in Muslim societies.
Dr. al-Hibri is the founding editor behind Hypatia: A Journal of Feminist Philosophy, a long-standing, peer- reviewed publication that has become a critical platform for advancing scholarship on gender equity for nearly 40 years. She has also contributed to the academic field as a member of the editorial boards of at least seven scholarly journals, and she is a Professor emeritus at the University of Richmond T.C. Williams School of Law, where she is the first Muslim woman to become tenured in an American law school.
She has worked to build bridges between communities and promote religious freedom through her service with the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom, Interfaith Alliance Foundation, the Council for America’s First Freedom, and other organizations.
CAAP is proud to be honoring Dr. al-Hibri for her bold and often courageous philanthropy. For more information on our event and secure your spot, please click the button below.
