The Center for Arab American Philanthropy (CAAP) recently hosted its seventh annual Threads of Giving Gala in Washington, D.C. More than 170 attendees came together to honor the pioneering human rights advocate, researcher, professor, lawyer and institution builder Dr. Azizah al-Hibri with the well-deserved Outstanding Arab American Philanthropist of the Year Award.
Dr. Azizah al-Hibri is a pioneering scholar and advocate whose work has had a global impact. She co-founded Hypatia: A Journal of Feminist Philosophy and has published widely on gender equity. In 1993, she founded KARAMAH: Muslim Women Lawyers for Human Rights, promoting human rights and empowering Muslim women worldwide. Beyond academia, she has served on numerous boards and advanced interfaith dialogue and religious freedom through her work with various organizations. Watch the video below to learn more about her roots and story.
At the event, attendees also enjoyed a beautiful concert of classical and folkloric Arabic music by the Boston Arabic Music Ensemble (BAME), whose performance was an incredible tribute to our cultural heritage.
