Join us for the eighth annual Threads of Giving Gala, a national celebration of Arab American philanthropy, as we honor Dr. Mohayya Khilfeh as the Outstanding Arab American Philanthropist of the Year for her exceptional generosity to numerous causes and decades of service as a pediatrician.

Dr. Mohayya Khilfeh was born and raised in Nablus, Palestine. After earning her medical degree from the College of Medicine in Baghdad, she returned to Nablus and practiced as a pediatrician there from 1968-1989, helping thousands of children. For many years she was the only pediatrician in Nablus and would often see 60 or more patients per day.

She is recently retired after practicing in Chicago as a pediatrician, where she currently resides. Her medical career included serving as Clinical Director of Humana Health Center at River Oaks in Calumet City and serving as chairwoman of pediatrics at Ingalls Hospital in Harvey, Illinois. She is a Fellow of The American Academy of Pediatrics as well as several other professional societies.

Dr. Khilfeh’s philanthropy has supported causes throughout the world, including the Jerusalem Fund, Friends of Nablus, the National Arab American Medical Association (NAAMA) where she served as former president of the Illinois chapter, An-Najah University in Nablus, and others. She is a leader and community builder who believes whole-heartedly in equal access to healthcare, education, and nurturing the next generation.

The Center for Arab American Philanthropy (CAAP), a national institution of ACCESS, is a 16-year-old national community foundation with the objective to unite and empower the Arab American community by demonstrating the impact of giving together.

CAAP improves communities by having granted over $23 million to various causes, serves donors by providing smart charitable giving tools, builds leaders through youth programming, and shapes perceptions about Arab Americans by highlighting their exceptional contributions to society.

Proceeds from this year’s Threads of Giving Gala will support CAAP’s mission to improve communities through grant-making by supporting human services and arts & culture organizations across the country.
