ushra’s empathy for those displaced from their homes runs deep. In the
early ‘90’s\, as Iraqi refugees began arriving in the Cleveland are

ablished The Iraqi American Society in 1992 to coordinate fundraising ef
forts to aid these families. Since then\, with multiple waves of refugee
crises\, Bushra hasn't stopped her commitment to the Iraqi and Syrian p

gees\, connecting them to ESL courses or coordinating job placements\, B
ushra paves the way for them to be self-sustainable and independent. \n
\n\nCancer research and treatment is another cause that hits home for Bu
shra. After devastatingly losing her mother to cancer and ultimately bec
oming a cancer survivor herself\, Bushra was moved to help fight the dis
ease. She is an avid supporter of the Cleveland Cancer Society Hope Hous
e and the King Hussein Cancer Center in Jordan. The charitable work of B
ushra and her sister\, Maha\, in Jordan heal and treat thousands of Iraq
i children who otherwise could not afford cancer treatment.\n\nBushra’
s interior design and construction company\, BR Design\, has designed an
d built thousands of enriching spaces for families in Ohio. She lives in
  Moreland Hills\, Ohio\, with her husband\, Nezar\, a Nephrologist. She
has four children: Ayad\, Besma\, Reem and Ahmed.\nSIMON SHAHEEN AND HIS

SUMMARY:100 Arab American Women Who Care
DESCRIPTION:&nbsp\;\n\n\n\nOn June 1\, 2024\, the 100 Arab American Wome
n Who Care giving circle will be gathering for its tenth-annual event! T
his year's gathering\, taking place at Saks Fifth Avenue\, marks the 11t
h year of this giving circle coming together and pooling thousands of do
llars of support to local Michigan non-profits. Throughout the years\, t
he 100 Arab Americans Who Care has generated $94\,000 for local organiza
tions of various causes. This signature event of the Center for Arab Ame
rican Philanthropy\, the nation's only Arab American community foundatio
n\, has also ensured that giving is a memorable experience for attendees
\, having previously featured an Arab American musician\, hosting a fash
ion show from internationally-acclaimed designer Katerina Bocci\, and ga
thering in creative venues!\nHow It Works\nThe 100 Arab American Women W
ho Care was conceived out of a simple idea: we can make a larger impact
when we give together. At the event\, each individual contributes $125\,
and nominates an organization she believes deserves grant support. At t
he event\, three charity names will be drawn at random. The attendees th
at voted on these three charities will make their pitch in front of the
crowd and try to convince everyone to vote for their charity. Attendees
will cast their votes for one of these three charities\, and whichever c
harity garners the most votes from the crowd wins the combined proceeds
from the event!\nCrushing Stereotypes\nThis annual event not only demons
trates that the impact of our dollar is stretched when we join forces bu
t also helps to dismantle stereotypes about Arab American women. This in
itiative draws a more accurate perception of a powerful and giving commu
nity.\nSupporting Local Causes\nThe 100 Arab American Women Who Care giv
ing circle has impacted organizations across Michigan\, including:\n\nSa
fe Harbor for Women\nBelinda Sue Fund for Ovarian Cancer Awareness &amp\
 ; Research\nFoundation for Women’s Cancer\nMuslim Unity Center -  for
  1001 Inventions Project\nNAAMA NextGen\nWomen for Humanity\nKids Agains
